Beach volley is a sport that has been tremendously richer in the world over the last few years. Rhodes Island was a great bridge of events around the world and across Europe. It is no coincidence that from the great Rhodes events to this day, cities without a liquid element around them are filled with people who want to watch the spectacle in the sand in global as well as pan-European competitions.
Rhodes was definitely a stop for big events and by the end of 2015 it completes 25 years since the beginning of beach volleyball on its beaches, its stadiums and more at City Hall where great international events took place. The first beach volleyball tournament in Rhodes is held in August 1990.
This is of great value considering that 1987 became the first international tournament in Rio De Janeiro, under the auspices of the FIVB (World Volleyball Federation). Beach volleyball becomes an Olympic sport and is presented for the first time in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympics.
Undoubtedly an important role in the development of the beach volleyball on our island was played by the intense activity he developed for his great love, the late Panagiotis Vakontios, in which at least on our island must every glory and honor.

All four championships took place at the City Hall of Rhodes Town, which admittedly left their time for their perfect organization, as well as the worldwide visibility of our island. The above are not are easy to forget events. Their images still make the round of the world today. Their photos adorn the offices of great sportsmen at European and world level, and the leaders of the Federations are still looking for Rhodes and they want to organize again big games that will again gather the eyes of the people of sport around the world.
Rhodes has been in beach volley ball, close to 3 decades. Because of these sport events as well, the island has gained a great recognition. From 2004 onwards. More than 25 years of beach volleyball have been eliminated, in the island of Rhodes, whereas these because of these and several other sport events, has gained a great glamour and was shown all over the world. The massive, fabulous, sandy beaches and the amazing weather conditions, make Rhodes the ideal place for professional and amateur beach volleyball players.
