There are a few places that you can arrange various tours, some which go along the beach and others to lake of Saint John. Still others offer rides through nature to the beautiful little village of Kalithies, where you can visit the monastery of Moni Eleoussa. There are even some places which offer holidays based solely around riding, with accommodation right at the stables. It all depends on what level you are after.
The cost of day trips vary, depending on which stable you choose and what you want to do. You don’t need experience either, just a willingness to learn. Riding a horse is both easy and fun and after you get the hang of it it becomes second nature. If you are not comfortable enough to just get up on a horse and ride, some stables offer lessons too.
There are guided tours, which will take you to a specific place to have a look around and then back to the stables, usually by a different route. Some can take all day and lunch will often be included. Others can go for just an hour or two. Experienced riders can take horses out on there own without a guide, though it is a good idea to stick to the well marked trails.
Horseback riding is something that the whole family can do, kids are usually always welcome as there is often no restriction on the age of the rider, as long as they are comfortable on a horse. Many places offer both English and western style saddles, the latter being easier to learn on, so it doesn’t matter if it is your first time or the hundredth.
Getting off the beaches away from the summer crowds is a great way to experience what Rhodes has to offer. You will find the people of the countryside friendly and welcoming. You’ll see things that most other tours will not show you.
