IPSENI

ABOUT

The countryside begins at the fringe of the village and it extends for miles until the next village, Laerma, which sits at the midpoint of the island. This area is enviously located on a green belt and in the shadow of the tallest range of mountains of Rhodes. In this very pleasing atmosphere the monastery of Panagia of Ipseni (Our Lady of Ipseni) has pride of place. The monastery functions normally, as it has always done, without interruption since its establishment in the beginning of the 19th century.

It is run by a group of friendly, very capable and self-sufficient nuns, who grow their own vegetables, live simple but fulfilling lives, and whose main wish is to keep their beautiful monastery among the hills going forever. Half of the complex, including the tall campanile, was built about 200 years ago.
