KALATHOS

ABOUT

Located 45 km from Rhodes Town the village of Kalathos has one of Rhodes’ most vast beaches. Stretching for 4 kilometres, you can be certain to find your own little spot, even during busy times. You’ll find that many stretches of the beach are unaffected by commercial development and the shallow, crystal clear waters good for families that want to go swimming. As you head up into the hills from the beach, you find the ancient village of Kalathos, a place that has a special charm and amazing sea views. The climate here is known for its dry and sunny weather, even during the winter months, making it a popular destination for those with chest illnesses. The village has a nice, but small selection of tavernas if you’re looking for a wholesome meal. There’s also a small supermarket where you can pick up snacks.

In the areas surrounding the village there are a number of ancient ruins to explore. One of the highlights of these sites is found a short distance away in the pretty village of Lindos. Here, you’ll find the Acropolis of Lindos. This ancient site overlooks the sea and dates back to the 4th century. It was once a wealthy town and the site includes a temple and theatre that could seat up to 1,800 people. Just a tip when visiting the site – go first thing in the morning as it is extremely popular and queues to visit can get long.
