KOSKINOU

ABOUT

Koskinou is a pretty village just 7km from Rhodes Town heading towards Faliraki. Here the old world meets the new with traditional buildings and a modern coastal resort. The seaside resort is particularly popular for those looking for a family holiday.

The old town sits proudly on a hill offering breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Within the town, you can explore the variety of tiny, twisting streets that take you past brightly painted houses, many with lush courtyards. Of particular note are the doors that adorn the village homes, many ornately decorated with carvings, wood, and iron. The village has in recent years attracted wealthy expats, resulting in the construction of some pretty amazing modern mansions on the cliffs surrounding the town.

Like most villages in Rhodes, Koskinou has an ancient history and a number or historically interesting buildings worth visiting. The village square here is round and where you’ll find most of these sites. Look out for Agia Irini church, it may be hard to notice at first as it looks more like an old mill. Another fascinating site is the 4th century Agios Loukas chapel. There is also a folklore museum that details the history of the culture and people of the people who lived here many, many years ago.

Koskinou has a fairly large population of 3,000, which means that it’s not entirely sleepy and has plenty of amenities for both locals and visitors. There are several shops selling most necessities and some great tavernas where you can enjoy a meal or drink.
