With ancient and fascinating history, spectacular scenery, charm, and vibrancy it is easy to see why Lindos is one of Rhodes’ most popular villages. Special traffic laws limit the use of vehicles in the main part of the village to just motorbikes and delivery vans, helping to keep the wonderful atmosphere that winds through the narrow streets and unchanged 15th century buildings. Many architectural styles can still be seen today, such as middle Eastern, Gothic and Greek Byzantine details in many corners.

Lindos may be relatively small with only a population of around 3,500 but it packs in plenty to do. The village dates back to 1000BC. Historic attractions that shouldn’t be missed include the 15th century Captain’s Houses and of course the Acropolis that sits high above the village. The walk to the Acropolis is littered with ruins from from several periods. Even if history isn’t your thing, the views from the top are fantastic. Also worth seeing is the Church of the Assumption and its ornate interior.

You will find two sandy beaches in Lindos, both offer safe swimming but the smaller Pallas beach tends to be quieter. St. Paul’s Bay is a beautiful and unique natural harbour located behind the village. As far as eating goes, Lindos has a great selection of tavernas and restaurants serving both Greek and international cuisine. There are also three well stocked supermarkets and a number of fast food vendors if you want something super quick.

Lindos is vibrant and busy. If you want isolation and quiet it would be best to visit this wonderful village at off-peak times. However, if you’re in Rhodes, regardless of your tastes it is well worth spending at least one day in this interesting village.
