Rhodes Travels Back in Time with Medieval Rose Festival - 31 May to 2 June, 2019.

A magical journey back in time kicks off this weekend on the island of Rhodes, where the exciting sights and sounds of the Middle Ages come to life in the Medieval City.

Fairies, magicians, the Order of the Knights, stilt walkers, merchants, swordsmen and craftsmen from across the globe meet up on the stone-paved streets of Rhodes’ Medieval Town through to June 2.

Organized by the Medieval Rose, a non-governmental and not-for-profit cultural organization founded in 2005, the three-day 13th Medieval Rose Festival under the general title “Tradition, History & Myth – The Legend of Rhodes in a Festival” is held in the Medieval City of Rhodes, an UNESCO World Heritage site.

The annual festival features everything from medieval feasts and dragon quests to sword fights and witch chasing, and aims to recreate the history, traditions and legends of Medieval Rhodes. At the same time, the events and re-enactments alluding to the island’s Byzantine and Medieval history aim to foster intercultural exchange.

The festival kicks of on Saturday (June 1) at 6pm with the opening feast, and interesting events include sword fights between knights and pirates, gypsy dancing, medieval board game competitions, the construction of a grand catapult, Medieval music concerts, fire shows and much more.

The 13th Medieval Rose Festival is co-organized by the South Aegean Region with the support of the Dodecanese Chamber and under the auspices of the shipping ministry.
